Oh my word!  Where did the time go!  It’s hard to believe that I will be discussing the last area of wellness!  Welcome everyone to week seven of the social media series, Seven Disciplines of Intentional Living.

Today I will discuss the importance of Environmental Wellness.  Environmental Wellness means taking care of your global environment and your personal surroundings.  Some of the ways you can do this is by de-cluttering your room, recycling, or volunteering to clean up your neighborhood can help improve health overall.

It always troubled me when I would drive through a neighborhood or even along the highways and see so much trash.  This is due to the carelessness of people to be mindful of how they throw away things.  To me that speaks volumes and tells me a lot about the people who live in that area.  People need to understand, that just like their home, the environment they live in or around can be a direct reflection of them.  When I was in the military, I would volunteer to do roadside cleanup.  It always surprised me of the things we would find, such as appliances, mattresses, and multiple bags of garbage just to name a few.  However, once we were done, the woods and highways would look a lot better.  The satisfaction of being a part of the solution was very fulfilling.  I believe we must all do our part to make this world a better place to live in.  We should strive to be a part of the solution and not the problem.  It instilled in me to be more mindful of how I get rid of my trash and recycling.

I encourage you to discover ways, you can achieve Environmental Wellness, by evaluating your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.  By doing a personal and professional SWOT Analysis, it will help you gain clarity in these four areas so you can develop strategies to move your Weaknesses and Threats into the Strengths and Opportunity areas.  You can go to my website www.inspirationallyspeaking.com and click on my blog, GUMBO.  From there you will be able to download the SWOT Matrix.

In order to assess your motivation to gain balance, ask yourself:

  • What resources do you need to gain Environmental Wellness?
  • What are your peers doing in this area?
  • What strengths are unique to you?
  • What threats does your weaknesses expose you to?
  • How committed are you to putting a plan in place to achieve Environmental Wellness?

I want to share this inspirational quote by famous cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead, she said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
